Moapa Valley Progress
After several years of no sports broadcasting by Moapa Valley High School, the MVHS Athletic Department, in association with Network 1 Sports, is proud to offer live, uninterrupted coverage of away Lady Pirate and Pirate basketball games.
For several years, the Pirates’ games were broadcast over a local frequency but have been silent for several years. But many people enjoyed the coverage. People began to voice their desire for a MVHS Pirate radio station to broadcast games, and so the voice of the Pirates, Jess Campbell, got involved.
Campbell found out about a company called Network 1 Sports that allowed for small, private internet radio stations to sign on their prospective high schools so that they could broadcast.
With basketball season on the horizon, the MVHS Athletic Department saw the opportunity to broadcast away division basketball games so that absentee fans could still support the Pirates.
After some tweaking and working on the broadcast system, Pirate Sports Radio on Network 1 Sports had its first successful basketball broadcast last Friday against Boulder City with Jon Oglesby working the play-by-play job live at Eagles Gymnasium.
“We are very excited to offer games on the radio to fans who can’t make the journey to follow the Pirates,” Oglesby said. “In our division, there are sometimes long driving distances and it’s important that we give the Pirate faithful a way to listen without making the drive.”
Oglesby also expects that the broadcasts will only get better. “Through Network 1 Sports, we have the potential to only get better at providing live broadcasts,” he said. “Our hope is to try and provide great broadcasts with intersting commentary and dramatic, live game moments.”
Pirate Radio Sports will broadcast live from Virgin Valley this Friday. The pre-game show will start at 5:50 with the Lady Pirates’ game starting at 6:00 and the Pirates’ game starting at 7:30. The Jonny Thunder Sports Show will be broadcast at intermission with
commentary, analysis, and post-game interviews with players and coaches.
