The students of Moapa Valley High School (MVHS) have challenged their rival, Virgin Valley High School (VVHS) in a battle for blood! They are fighting to see who can collect the highest number of units at their blood drives throughout the school year.
“The challenge began last year, when one of Moapa’s students asked me how VVHS did at their blood drives,” said Julie Lindsay, Donor Recruitment Supervisor for United Blood Services. “When I gave him the comparison, he decided it was time to up the ante. I issued the challenge to the Bulldogs, and they accepted it.”
At the end of the 2006-2007 school year, the Pirates took the trophy by collecting a total of 175 units in three blood drives, to the Bulldogs’ 146 units. So far this year, MVHS has collected three more units than their rival.
The next blood drive for Moapa Valley High School is Monday, January 28, from 7:30 AM–1:30 PM in the School Auditorium. All students must make an appointment at www.bloodhero.com sponsor code: MVHS. For more information, contact Joyce Olson at the school.
Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh more than 110 pounds. All donors must present proper identification. On average, the typical donation time is 45 to 60 minutes.
The United Blood Services network is one of the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations, and is a founding member of America’s Blood Centers and the American Association of Blood Banks.
