Jennifer, who is a fifth grade student at Grant Bowler Elementary, had been admitted on Wednesday, January 16, for emergency open heart surgery. The Jacobsmeyers had been preparing that week to go on a family vacation when Jennifer fell ill. With a history of heart problems, Jennifer had undergone open heart surgery about two years ago. This time, after a trip to the doctor, it became evident that there were additional problems. Doctors quickly determined that Jennifer needed to undergo another surgery to have two heart valves replaced.
The family vacation, obviously, had to be postponed. Jennifer was very disappointed to be the cause of the postponement, her father Robert Jacobsmeyer said.
But Mr. Jacobsmeyer had read that Cyrus was in town for a highly publicized concert appearance. Knowing how much of a Hannah Montana fan his daughter is, Jacobsmeyer decided to try to see if he could arrange a hospital visit from Cyrus. He tried several times and ways to get in touch with Cyrus’ publicity people but he had no luck.
Finally, on a last ditch effort, he went to the MGM Grand hotel where he knew Cyrus was staying. Jacobsmeyer is a firefighter and so had participated in some drill exercizes at a rear service entrance at the MGM hotel. That is where he went, hoping to be able make contact with someone on the hotel security staff.
When he got there he found that security personnel was on hand. He explained to the security guards his situation and asked if they might be able get a note through to Cyrus. They took the note, Jacobsmeyer said. But he was told that Cyrus had no plans to make any in-person visits while in town. So Jacobsmeyer went away thinking that nothing would come of it.
But, to everyone’s complete surprise, Cyrus showed up with a very small entourage at the hospital. “She didn’t want to make a big media event out of it so she came through a back entrance and only stayed for a few minutes,” said Robert Jacobsmeyer. But for young Jennifer it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Jennifer is now recuperating at home.
