MVHS Holds Traditional Reverse Dance
by Kylea McMurray
Moapa Valley Progress

The student body of Moapa Valley High School (MVHS) held its annual Reverse Dance on Saturday, January 26. This Sadie Hawkins style, girls-ask-boys event had many teenagers running around the Valley, and beyond, completing scavenger hunts, finding matching shirts and just generally having fun.

The MVHS Reverse Dance carries many traditions with it.

Group of MVHS students wore bright matching shirts for the school’s Reverse Dance which was held Saturday, January 26.
Many of the girls at MVHS have spent the last month devising creative and clever ways to ask their date to the dance. When asked, the young men are also expected to answer creatively. Needless to say, the last few weeks have been littered with pranks, decorated cars and bedrooms, and riddles for many students.

Most of the dates held this weekend were group dates, including anywhere from two to ten couples per group. Each couple in the group was generally set apart by matching shirts; another famous Reverse tradition.

For many, the Reverse Dance has evolved into a full-blown, all-day date. Most groups spent all of Saturday together, doing everything from visiting Circus-Circus in Las Vegas, to playing games in the park.

When the day was drawing to a close, the groups migrated to the MVHS student center for the dance. This year’s reverse theme was Hollywood, and students danced away the evening amid sparkles and movie posters.
