Last week the rodeo arena at the Clark County Fairgrounds got an update. In the early morning, Clark County workers, fair staff, and Rodeo volunteers were on hand to construct new corrals at the new rodeo arena which has been under construction for the last two weeks.
Last year before the Clark County Fair and Rodeo, the County assembled a 100-stall stable to the east of the rodeo arena.

The Fair Committee purchased new bucking chutes that were used for the first time at last year’s rodeo. The recent construction of the new arena and holding corrals brings the entire facility up to date.
Rodeo Committee Chair, Doug Schwartz, explained that the Fair Board planned to use the materials from the old arena to build an auxiliary arena to the north of the stalls before this years Fair.
“Of the hundreds of PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association) sanctioned rodeos around the county, the Clark County Fair and Rodeo is ranked number 25,” Schwartz said. “The problem is for a long time we have been running the rodeo in a 20-year-old facility. We have needed this update for a long time.”
The update was made possible due to the efforts of Clark County Commissioner and Logandale resident, Tom Collins. According to Schwartz, some time ago the County had appropriated about $750,000 for the building of an equestrian park in North Las Vegas. The North Las Vegas location could not be used and the money would have to be returned to the County. Last summer, Collins was able to work to redirect the money for the rodeo facility.
“I am very pleased with what the County is doing to help us make a high quality rodeo facility,” Schwartz said. “Last year the cash prizes given out to rodeo winners exceeded $250,000. This year that should go up to $275,000. We are working with the County to have a facility that matches the quality of our event.”
