Moapa Valley Progress
The Moapa Valley Art Guild has begun its 50th year of existence. Members of the Guild believe it is an anniversary worth celebrating. The Guild owes its existence to the inspiration and perseverance of local artist and art teacher, Max Bunnell, who is still a valley resident and an active artist, teacher, and a person of inspiration for the Guild, according to Flo Lund, Guild President for 2008. “Therefore we feel it is fitting that a large part of the celebrating will be in honor of Max,” Lund said.
To start things off, the guild has planned a Kick-off Dinner in honor of Bunnell to be held in March. The dinner will coincide with a two-day showing of Bunnell’s art work, along with some of the art works in the permanent collection of the Moapa Valley Art guild, most of which were secured by Bunnell’s efforts. The dinner will be by invitation, but the exhibit is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22. The exhibit will be held in the auditorium at the Old Logandale School.
Also as part of the celebration, a program called “Art on Tour” will begin in early April. It will involve several art exhibits that will rotate among selected businesses and professional offices in the Moapa Valley. If you would like to know more about this program, please drop a line to the Moapa Valley Art Guild, P.O. Box 2249, Overton, NV 89040; or call 397-2888. If all goes according to plan, this “Art on Tour” program will go from April of this year up to April of 2009. If it has been successful that far, it is possible it might be continued in 2009.
There would be no cost to any of the host sites to participate in this program. Businesses and professional offices would benefit by adding to the attractiveness of their interiors, and Guild members will benefit from having a place to show their art works all year round.
