Local youth Haydn Waite has joined the ranks of successful hunters by recently shooting his first buck. Haydn has been hunting for the past couple of years with his father, the late Scott Waite, but never before came home with a deer.
Hoping to make his father proud, Haydn set out on this years hunt with his Uncle Lanny Waite.

“Haydn was particularly proud to harvest this year, as he wanted to be successful in honor of his dad” said Haydn’s mom, Susan Waite.
Haydn and his uncle traveled north near Ely, Nevada where Haydn had drawn a deer tag. “This was an exciting hunt, we saw a lot of deer and some big elk,” said Uncle Lanny.
Hunting with a muzzleloader Haydn nailed a 4-point buck with unique double eye guards from an impressive 121 yards.
This was no simple task. A muzzleloader is an open sights firearm. Haydn had no scope to assist him with his shot. “He was real excited, he had a grin from ear to ear,” explained Uncle Lanny.
Following the hunt, the animal was processed and the Waite family is enjoying the jerky and meat that Haydn has provided. Haydn plans on using a kit to mount the horns in order to remember his first deer harvest.
