Moapa Valley Progress
The Biggest Loser is well underway. Saturday, February 9, was a perfect day to hold the first challenge. Held up on the Mormon Mesa east of town, the participants had an event that dragge them to the top of the “mountain” stopping to participate in a nutritional quiz, (which the groups had received answers to in an earlier seminar), a lunge station, crunches, squats, and push-up hold stations as well.
The dedication shown by each of the teams was high. “There were team members from other teams cheering on fellow climbers,” said Stacy Vassar, one of the mentors for the competition. Competitors motivating and “pushing” up team members, all to see everyone succeed.
After the challenge, extremely sore and tired team members retreated to their homes to rest before the evening meeting.
During the meeting winners of the day’s challenge were announce along with the leading teams for the weigh in. Coming in fourth place in the timed challenge were the “Hopeful Hotties” with a time of 43.30. Behind them in third were the “Fat Free Freeman’s” timed at 39.54. Hot on their trail was “Iron Will” with 39.29 and the “Shake-n-Bake” cleaning it up with a time of 37.53.
During the meeting the teams were let in on the pounds that were lost during the first four weeks of the competition. As a total, the group has lost a combined weight of 875 pounds, this puts the group percentage at 4.01%. Only the top five teams were mentioned, but all of the teams had an opportunity to get their “place” in line. Losing 58.4 pounds this first weigh-in was the team of “Ladies and the Tramp”. At 61.2 pounds was the “Moapa 6-Pack”. Tied for third were the “Gut Busters” and “Iron Will” pulling off 61.4 pounds with the “Shake-n-Bake” team losing 68 pounds even. The “Big Blue Machine” were able to shed an incredible 100.2 pounds.
The next weigh in and challenge will be held on Saturday March 8; time and place to be announced.
