Exciting Entertainment Lined Up For The CC Fair

The Bellamy Brothers, Black Hawk, Chad Brock, The Doo Wah Riders, Ty England, Ty Herndon, Frank Thurston, Chely Wright; all of these and many more are included on the Wall of Fame in the Clark County Fair Office. Leading the group off is Toby Keith who began the Headliners Entertainment series in 1998. I dropped in to talk with Denise Robison, the Entertainment Director of the CC Fair.
Country band, Emerson Drive, will be the headline act at the Clark County Fair this year.
Denise has been in that position for approximately nine years and has served on the Fair Board for 12 years. She began going to Fair Conventions where the showcases of available talent are held; got to know the agents; and visa versa and soon was deeply involved in bringing to the CC Fair the best talent available, on a limited budget, that the majority of the people would like.

Denise has always enjoyed the theatre and learned quickly how to buy from experience. She stated that it is a bit easier to book some of the bigger names because the Valley is so close to one of the entertainment capitals of the world. Many of the headliners either already work in the Las Vegas theatres, or would like to, and know that they will be scouted out at the fair, Robison said. It also helps that the CC Fair is one of the few fairs that is held in the spring time, she said.

Robison must be doing a good job because she has even had entertainers asking her to represent them.

The process of hiring the many acts is a continuing cycle. Robison visits fairs and conventions during the year, but also keeps a listing of who was available the previous year. Sometimes it takes a year or more to obtain a certain act because of scheduling problems.

She always hires the big headliner act first. The headliner act for this year’s fair will be the country band, Emerson Drive. Emerson Drive has become largely popular with their recent Top 20 hits “Moments”and “A Good Man” . Country fans can be sure to enjoy a high-energy show from Emerson Drive. Tickets for the concert can be purchased by visiting the Fair website at www.ccfair.com.

After the headline act is booked, Robison then goes to work building the rest of the fair entertainment around it. This year she will be expanding the number of strolling entertainers.

I excitedly told Denise that I had just attended the South Florida Fair in the West Palm Beach area and who should I run into but “Doggies of the Wild West” – a group that has played our own County Fair the last couple of years! They were very gracious and happy to meet someone from Logandale and the CC Fair.

Robison said that she likes to keep an act for a couple of years, more, if they are extremely popular. She said that she has the entertainment almost nailed down for 2008 which will include: Kahuna Beach Party Band, Tim Gabrielson (magician), Stephen Lord (singer), the Sweeneys (from Disney), Weldes Bear Show, Marc Savard (hypnotist) and the Chicago Honey Bear Dancers (a dancing/singing group that features Lisa – a finalist from American Idol). For more information concerning the acts, the reader can log onto the ccfair.com website and view the entertainment section.

This group of talented and dedicated CC Fair personnel has been recognized for Outstanding Promotional Advertising, Newspaper Advertising (B&W), Radio and Television Campaigns and more. Once the basic format for each segment of the fair is set up, then the volunteers are called in.

In another article, I will pay homage to those individuals who are so willing to help, give freely of their time and talent, and come back year after year – the Volunteer.
