Relay For Life Team Has Novel Fundraising Idea
Moapa Valley Progress

The Annual Relay for Life event is just around the corner. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and commence through the night ending twelve hours later. Many local teams have been formed and are working hard to raise money for a good cause.

The Relay for Life is an event that takes place in communities all over the United States. In Moapa Valley it has, in recent years, been a very successful event. Having raised thousands of dollars with past events, the local committee looks forward to another great turnout.

Many locals and their teams are currently collecting donations privately. Some are attempting collections on a larger scale with an attempt to involve the whole community while having fun with their efforts. One team, formed by the Calvary Community Church, is one example of this. This team will be showing their spirit by holding a “Flamingo Flocking Fund Raiser” to collect donations for the event.

For a small donation of only $10.00 the team will sneak into someone’s yard and “Flock” them with pink flamingos. A note will be left explaining that they have been selected by someone to be “Flocked” for a good cause. It will also explain that the recipient of the flock can also donate $10 to have the flock relocated. The fun part is that each flocking victim then gets to choose the next victim. This flocking process continues for the duration of the fund-raising event.

The Calvary Team plans to run their fund-raiser through the entire month of March and hopes to “Flock” many victims. After all, it is for a good cause, and who doesn’t love the idea of pink flamingos in their yard?

“We will dress them up and they will look fun,” said team member Mary Benson.

The team is taking requests now. If you would like to surprise a friend, neighbor, family member or co-worker for this good cause please contact either Susie Fisk at 397-6556 or Mary Benson at 702-419-5424. Either would be happy to let the “Flocking” begin.

The Calvary Community Church Team wants everyone to have fun with this fund raiser and appreciates the support!
