Local Athletes Make All-Division Teams

Moapa Valley Progress

After an exciting winter sports season in the Southern 3A, the all-division teams were released to the public last week. Moapa Valley High School was well represented as the Pirates sent playoff teams in both boys and girls basketball for the first time in over four years.

The MVHS Basketball team, which finished 4-4 in division and made it to the conference championship game, sent two juniors to top the division team list: Max Jenkins and Shaun Hilton.

Jenkins, who served as a starting forward for the Pirates all season, was one of the offensive and defensive catalysts for the Pirates’ deep run into the playoffs this year. Hilton, who was the team’s leader at the point guard position, was better known throughout the year as a player who could run, score, and defend the basket.

MVHS player, Shiloh Sandoval, made the second team all-division list as he was voted as the Utility Player for his ingenuity, work-ethic, and offensive shooting. Dustin Maletich was also selected as a honorable mention division player because of his offensive and defensive skills.

The Lady Pirates were also represented on this year’s all-division team as they returned to the playoffs with a 2-6 division record after several seasons of disappointment. Star Point Guard Blythe Thompson represented Moapa Valley best as she placed as the division’s 1st Team Point Guard for the 2007-08 season. Thompson consistently led the Lady Pirates in offensive, defensive, and overall play.

The other Lady Pirate who featured prominently was Kasi Delgadillo who was the second Team All-Division forward. Delgadillo, who was the brawn of the Lady Pirate attack, was consistently one of the most aggressive Lady Pirates.

One of the most improved Lady Pirates this year, Jessica Waite, was given an honorable mention in the conference this year for her outstanding play. Waite, sat out part of last season after a leg injury, came back to play outstanding basketball for the Lady Pirates this year.
