The Clark County Board of County Commissioners voted last week to appoint Logandale resident Gene Houston to serve on the Moapa Valley Town Advisory Board (MVTAB). The action taken in a meeting held Tuesday, March 4, filled a vacancy left in the MVTAB since the resignation of Board Member, Kurt Lytle.
Lytle resigned in January after announcing that he had taken a job with the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA). The position, which deals with land acquisition for a proposed pipeline bringing water to Southern Nevada from White Pine County, required Lytle to resign from the Board.
Houston, who has served on the MVTAB extensively in the past said that he was looking forward to being back. “I’m excited about it,” Houston said. “There is a very good group of people sitting now on the Board and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
Houston explained that he had been approached by the Commissioners when the MVTAB position had opened up. Because there were only 10 months left in Lytle’s term, the Commissioners had wanted someone who knew the issues and would be able to hit the ground running, Houston said.
Houston brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to the position. He served on the MVTAB for seven years between 1999-2006. He served as MVTAB Chairman from 2004-2006. In addition there are very few local governing and planning committees that Houston has not served on; including the Citizen’s Advisory Board for the Moapa Valley Parks Master Plan, the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for the Moapa Valley Sewer system and the Flood Control Project Committee.
“I’m aware of just about all of the issues,” Houston said. “So it won’t be anything too new to me.”
