The Moapa Valley High School (MVHS) Softball team is up and running this season, and they are off to a great start. The team has played games both a way and at home already this spring, and they are quickly pulling together as a successful team.
Last weekend the team traveled to Needles, California to compete against 16 other teams in the Colorado River Invitational. The teams at the tournament were divided into four brackets. The Lady Pirates competed well in their bracket, where they tied for first. However, in tournament play, there must be a winner, and the team lost the tie-breaker and were awarded second in their bracket.

Next the team moved into a bracket with the other second place teams.
Their competition was stiff, and after a tough bracket of play, the Pirates took fourth in their bracket, and eighth overall in the tournament.
When the Pirates got home, they worked hard to prepare for regular play at home and away. In one of their first home games last week, the team took on Meadows, a very young, inexperienced team. They played with class, and finished the game in the third inning with a 15-0 score.
“We knew that they were a young, struggling team, made up mostly of sophomores and freshmen, so we didn’t run up the score, we just played to 15 so that we could end the game. We had fun, and we think they did too,” said player Kaytie Cook. After the game, the Meadows team coach thanked the team for their class and sportsmanship.
The team has been practicing hard this week, during the school Spring Break. Next week they will once again be playing hard, beginning with a game against Hurricane next Tuesday.
