and their families. Missy Crew, the Sr. Circle Advisor, is also the coordinator for the Healthy Women Programs.
Preceding the dinner was a Women’s Expo. In addition to all the free stuff, women had the opportunity to have their blood pressure and blood sugar tested, to receive an Oral Cancer Screening and also to receive foot and body massages.
The 500 plus men and women in attendance then enjoyed a marvelous dinner, listened to remarks of Mesa View Regional Hospital CEO Sue Conley and Mesquite Mayor Susan Holecheck and joined in singing “God Bless America” with Melody Pemberton. Then the evening really took off when Key-note Speaker, Dr. Suzanne Metzger, took to the podium. Dr. Metzger is President of Corporate Master, Inc., and is an internationally known humorist and motivational speaker.
Dr. Metzger delivered a thought provoking and inspiring message interjected with wit and humor.
Metzger stated that women are often unrealistic about themselves and are always comparing themselves to others. Dr. Metzger pulled out a tape measure and said that if you think you have to have a size 12 waist, use her tape measure – it’s elastic! And when someone asks you your age with a sympathetic nod of their head, reply (as all new mother’s do of their babies) I am 720 months old! (. . .or whatever number is appropriate.) She urged all to set goals, have a plan, be active, and keep moving. Learn to let go! Decide if it is worth the effort to make a problem out of an inconvenience.
What matters, is what you think of yourself. Dr. Metzger’s humor and inspirational message can be found in her book, “Learning Through Living.” She finished her program saying that “life is a journey we are on together, so enjoy the trip!” The participants departed humming and boogying to Becky Nissila’s rendition of “I’m A Woman!”
Thank you to all the Mesa View Hospital personnel and other community members who worked so hard to make this a memorable and successful kickoff! We look forward to the 2008 monthly seminars at 6:30 p.m. at Mesa View Regional Hospital.
