Clark County Parks and Recreation held Youth Spring Break Camps from March 17-20. Three different camps were held including Craft Camp in Moapa for children ages 5- 11; Sports Camp at the County Fairgrounds for children ages 5 -11; and Soccer Camp at the County Fairgrounds for kids age 9 - 12.

Craft camp was run by Parks and Rec Specialist Gail

Lindsey. Lindsey had a wide variety of crafts to keep the kids busy throughout the four day camp.

Running the Sports Camp was Parks and Rec’s Dion Lee with the help of Brittany Reeves and Gary Weiss. Sports camp brought out over 30 kids ages 5 -12 for four days of fun and sports.

Day one was set aside for basketball where the kids practiced drills. The kids were divided into groups and got to play some games as well. A Junior Olympic Drill had the kids competing in a shooting match. “Everyone was a winner” said Weiss and Reeves.

During day two, soccer was the sport of choice. The kids worked on passing, shooting, dribbling and ball control. The Junior Olympic Drill had the kids shooting from the 18 yard box, the goal was to see how fast they could dribble down and shoot. Young RJ Hubert took the honors of winner with a 15 second time drill.

Day three gave the kids the opportunity to brush up on football. They practiced throwing, running and quarterback drills along with lots of other fun football “stuff”. The Junior Olympic Drill had kids testing how far they could throw and punt, with markers every 5 yards the drill began. RJ Hubert again took the winner title with a 46 yard best.

The last day of camp the kids worked on track and field skills. Sprints, distance, relay races, practicing baton hand offs and hurdles were a few of the fun things the kids got to do during track and field day.

In addition to the Sports Camp was a Soccer Camp designed for kids in grades 5-8. Only about five kids attended this camp, but Brittany Reeves gave them a great learning experience. Reeves is a high school soccer player herself and ran the Soccer Camp on her own.

Reeves had the group work on a variety of soccer skills and scrimmage time was a must. The camp had a small fee of $2 per day per child or $7 per child for the week.
