Moapa Valley Progress Submitted Apr. 2, 2008

Last week, the Pirate Track Teams traveled to Las Vegas to face off against Cheyenne, Legacy, Centennial, and the Meadows School in a dual featuring three 4A schools and one of the top 2A teams in the state of Nevada.

Moapa Valley was represented well at the tournament as the Pirates scored 73 points to take second place with the Lady Pirates scoring 49.5 to take fourth.

Pirate Track was best represented by Josh Witter in the 1600, Josh Thompson in the 3200, Conley Masters and Matt Delgadillo in the 110 and 300 Hurdle events. Jax Howard would once again win the Discus event. Moapa Valley also saw some notable improvement in other areas including the Relay events which saw the Pirates place in the 3200 Relay.

The Lady Pirates had a solid meet and were solidly represented by Blythe Thompson who won the 100 and 300 Hurdle events. Lady Pirate Track also got a good showing from their relay teams as the MVHS Lady Pirate Relay team combined to take a first place in the 800 Relay and a second place in the 400 Relay.

Moapa Valley Track will now prepare for the tournaments in the coming weeks which include the Richard Lewis Invitational on Friday at Moapa Valley High School’s state-renown Pirate Stadium. The Invitational, which begins at 3:00 p.m., is set to feature some of the best track teams in and around the Silver State. With several of Moapa Valley’s divisional rivals being scheduled to attend.
