It was a big day for the preschoolers at the Clark County Parks and Recreation Kids Corner on Friday, April 4. The children, taught by Annette Olson and Mary-Jean Carson, went on a mini-field trip to the Overton Post Office.
Overton Postmaster, Barbara Lewis, took the children on a tour of the post office. There were two sets of preschoolers.

Preschoolers from Clark County Parks and Recreation Kids Corner tour the Overton Post Office on Friday.

The first group of 15 children, aged three to four, came over at 10:45 am. The second group of nine children, aged four to five, came over at 1:45 pm.
As the children gathered in, Lewis showed them around the office. The kids learned how the mail came to the post office and how it left. They were taught how the mail is sorted in Las Vegas and trucked to different post offices around the country for delivery. The children also were able to see where their post office boxes were if they lived in Overton.
After the tour was over, it was time for the kids to ask their questions. Lewis answered all sorts of questions about a wide variety of subjects; from the equipment that is used to the packages and how they are sent.
Lewis asked the children, “What is one thing that has to go on every letter?” A couple of kids answered a stamp. Others said an address.
Before the kids headed back to preschool, they all received a coloring book and snack bag with goodies inside. The children had a great time and went back to school with treats. When the children got back to school, theyeach wrote a letter to their parents and mailed it to see just how long a letter takes to get there.
