The Moapa Valley High School Track Teams have been busy preparing for the coming weeks as the Division Tournament, which the Pirates will host, is fast approaching.

Last week, the Pirates and Lady Pirates ran at the Eldorado Quad with Eldorado, Shadow Ridge, and Clark all taking place. The Pirates placed second with 49.5 points, beating host Eldorado and Clark.

Moapa got some high finishes off of several veteran runners. The notoriously fast Witter brothers made a showing all over the tournament with Josh Witter taking second in the 800 meter run with 2:08 minutes. Josh Thompson fared well in the 3200 meter run taking second with a time of 10:41.

The strength of the Pirate runners is in relays and Moapa Valley raced themselves to several high finishes in this category as the Pirates took first in the 400 meter relay, second in the 800 meter relay, and second in the 1600 meter relay. Moapa also got a great performance from Conley Masters who won the High Jump and Matt Delgadillo who took second in the 300 Hurdles.

The Lady Pirates also placed second, scoring 43 points as they were led by Blythe Thompson who placed second in the 110 and 300 Hurdles.

The Lady Pirates also got a solid performance out of their relay teams as they placed second in the 400, 1600, and 3200 meter relays.

The high point of the Quad Meet was the high jump which was swept by the Olige sisters with junior Brianne Olige taking first. Her little sister, freshman Chelsea Olige placed second. The MVHS Track Teams have a few tournaments and meets left until they host the Southern 3A Divisional Track and Field Tournament on the ninth and tenth of May.
