Moapa Valley Progress
Submitted April 23, 2008
The Moapa Valley High School Track Teams participated last week in several meets to continue preparation for the Southern 3A Track Meet at Moapa Valley in early May.
Moapa Valley took part in a five-team meet on Tuesday April 15. The Pirates finished last with 22 points. Many veteran track athletes had been left unable to participate in the meet for breaking team rules.
There were bright spots, however, for the Pirates that did make the journey. That included some of the up-and-coming stars of the future. Josh Thompson took second place in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 10:59 and Moapa Valley’s relay teams took another high finish in the 3200 Meter Relay with a time of 9:11. Moapa’s lone winner at the meet was Jax Howard who continued his impressive season with a win in the discus event.
The Lady Pirates also partcipated in the meet, scoring 15 points. Again a smaller traveling team saw several veteran athletes missing because of team rules violations. The Lady Pirates got an impressive win from Jordan Chappell who won the 800 meter race with a time of 2:45.
Moapa Valley’s freshmen and sophomore runners participated in the Sunrise Frosh-Soph Championships on Friday, April 18. The Pirates got a notable high finish from Cameron Lim who took second in the Discus event.
The Moapa Valley High School Track Teams will now continue to prepare this week for the Southern 3A Track Tournament at Moapa Valley’s Pirate Stadium on May 9-10.
