‘All Aboard!’ Grant M. Bowler Elementary students had a busy week from Monday, April 21-25. Many students participated in Turn Off the TV Week by not watching television for the entire week and the whole school participated in Reading Week. Reading week brought children to a different destination with new activities each day.
Bowler Literacy Specialist Jennifer Hanevold planned her first Reading Week and did an outstanding job! The theme for the week was “Ride the Reading Train”.

“Each day was a different destination into another book genre,” stated Hanevold. Monday was the kick off at Morning Muster and spirit day in which kids wore their blue and gold school shirts.
Tuesday brought kids to a galaxy far, far away into Science Fiction land. Kids dressed up as their favorite alien, Star Wars or Narnia character.
On Wednesday kids went to Fantasy Land dressing up as their favorite character. Also on Wednesday, Moapa Valley High School students visited Bowler and read aloud to students. Ms. Shyla Marshall, National Little Britches Rodeo Queen even stopped by to read to students.

Thursday was Destination Children’s Classic’s day and Round-Robin teacher swap.
On Friday morning at ‘Morning Muster’ there was an Old-Fashioned Western Shoot-out in which the kids had to read to get the Principal out of “jail”.
To bring Reading Week to an end, Channel 3 Weatherman John Fredericks visited Bowler Elementary and read to grades 4-5. Fredericks brought his puppy LJ along who posed for a few photos with kids which appeared on the news.
Fredericks stressed the importance of school and reading to the students and gave kudos to teachers for having the most important job of them all.
