Moapa Valley Progress
Submitted May 14, 2008
After three years of having no representation in the State Golf Tournament, Moapa Valley will be represented by Jon Oglesby this week in Mesquite at the 2008 NIAA Nevada Class 3A Boys Golf State Tournament.
Moapa Valley had a marked improvement over last year’s Division Tournament as the Pirates placed fourth, shooting 432 on the par-72 Mountain Falls layout in Pahrump Valley.
The number to get into the State Tournament was 85. Oglesby and Boulder City’s Brandon Faircloth tied for the final berth into the State Tournament. Falling not far behind in the race for State was Taylor Stevens who shot an 89 and Casen Lewis who shot a 90.
Rounding out the rest of Moapa Valley’s scores was Travis Causey with a 94, Jonathan Wilson with a 97, and Andrew Anderson with a 111.
Oglesby said that he was excited to go to State but even more excited to represent his school, his coach, and his teammates. “While I’ll be competing at State this week, I know that I wouldn’t be here without the support of my teammates and my coach,” Oglesby said.
Oglesby will play this week in Mesquite at The Palms Golf Club, which happens to be Moapa Valley’s home course, and at Casablanca Golf Club. “It gives me a little advantage to know those courses having played them so much,” commented Oglesby.
The 2008 NIAA Nevada Class 3A Boys Golf Tournament will be played this Tuesday and Wednesday with Tuesday action at the Palms and Wednesday play at the Casablanca Golf Club.
