Moapa Valley Rotary President Steve Getz presented Cappalappa Family Resource Center (CFRC) with a generous check, on May 6, which will assist in starting a new program called First Step Out The Door.
CFRC Facility Leader Penny Vallone happily accepted this check with a big thank you. Vallone has been looking forward to instituting this new program for the past year. “It has taken a while to get it started but it will be a great program for young adults,” said Vallone.

Moapa Valley Rotary President Steve Getz presents Cappalappa Facility Leader Penny Vallone with a generous contribution for the start of a new young adult program called “First Step out the Door”.

The purpose of “First Step out the Door” is to help prepare young adults for their first experiences when going out into the world. The program is an 8 session workshop designed to be completed in four weeks. Most sessions should be no longer than two hours. “We encourage all teens to attend this workshop, and parents to monitor their progress,” encouraged Vallone.
The program will prepare young adults with the skills needed concerning job applications, resumes, interviews, dressing for success, and preparing and maintaining a budget. Attendees will also have a mentor day with a local adult. There will be role playing and practice sessions that are designed to prepare them for the “real thing”.
“Whether this year is “the year” your children will take that first step, or if it is in the next 2-3 years, this program will do wonders to eliminate first time mistakes and anxieties,” stated Getz.
The program is planned to run quarterly with the first session beginning on June 2. Classes will be held at the CFRC located at 261 S. Jones in Overton. Classes will take place each Monday and Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Please contact CFRC at 397-6400 with questions regarding timing and courses available.
