SEND A LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Thanks, Commissioner!
To the Editor:
I would liked ot thank Commissioner Tom Collins for correcting what seemed to be a hopeless situation that affected about 50 part-time county employees.

On July 3, we did not receive our paychecks. Though they had tried to remedy the situation locally, the error was an oversight in the payroll department. I also made many calls to Las Vegas starting with Human Resources, only to be referred to several numbers all forwarded to voice mail except the last, though sympathetic the person informed me that the payroll department was on vacation through the following week. There was no one to write the checks for at least 10 days.

Like most Americans, I depend on my check on payday. Now worried about bills that are due and not up to a 10 day fast, not to mention it was now nearing mid-afternoon, I turned to Mr. Collins, asking for any assistance he could give.

Before I could finish my sad story, he was making a second call. He not only got the problem corrected, our checks were delivered to the valley at 7:30 that evening. The followed up by a call from Mr. Collins to make sure I had received my paycheck.

On behalf of all the part-time employees in the northeast County, thank you for taking hte time to listen then going above and beyond the call of duty to correct an error that affected so many.

Increasing M.P.G.
To the Editor:
I just completed a 700 mile test run. I increased my miles per gallon from 24 m.p.g. to 35. I made three changes on my car. 1) change air filter; 2) added 5 psi on all four tires; 3) set my cruise control to 60 mph (on I-15).

I can’t do much more. But if all drivers would cut their speed it would cut the demand. I called Rep. Jon Porter’s office asking why Congress was not reducing the speed limits to conserve fuel. as yet, I have gotten no return call. His phone number is 702-387-4341. Call him and ask about lowering speed limits.

Apology
To the Editor:
I would like to apoligize to my school, Moapa Valley High, for the trouble my friends and I have caused. I understand my actions have a negative effect on the way our town is viewed. Therefore I would like to apologize to the community. I can not explain the discomfort I feel when people may have a false judgement on my character.

While on probation I have no choice in what I wear or who I talk to. I should have set an example for my friends. I know I have made a bad decision. I would again like to say sorry to everyone my actions may have impacted.
