| OLSHACS Appreciates Its Members In Open House | |||
| By Rachel Brandes Moapa Valley Progress Published February 25, 2009 The Old Logandale School and Cultural Society (OLSHACS) held an Open House and Membership Appreciation Day on Saturday, February 21. The Open House began at 11:30 a.m. and lasted until 3:00 p.m. With an understanding that local residents might be tight on money these days membership dues were cut in half this year from $40 to $20 for an individual membership while a dual membership with two in the same household costs only $35 this year. |

| During the Open House free lunch was served. Cooked up fresh in the kitchen were authentic Indian Tacos and Hot Dogs for the kids. Not only was there great food but great entertainment as well. Throughout the day talented locals took their turn on the stage performing for the crowd.
The Moapa Valley Children’s Choir started things off with a few songs. Jill Grieg and Kristy Dalley’s violin students then gave the audience several beautifully played numbers. The group consisted of 8 students ranging in age from 6 to 16. Rose Whitmore and Hannah Sommers each took a turn tickling the ivories and the Zephyr Consort took their turn at the stage as well. Local youth Megan Potter presented her lovely voice with the accompaniment of Shelby Bennett on the piano. During the Open House attendees not only had the opportunity to enjoy the free food and entertainment, they also had the chance to walk around and visit each room. Set up in one of the meeting rooms was Ben Muhlestein of The Quintilian School of Oratory. Muhlestein provided information on his upcoming seminars throughout the day. Raffle tickets were available for purchase with some fantastic prizes. A free drawing ticket was given to those who presented their 2009 membership card. At the end of the day the drawing was held. Items raffled off included a handmade comforter made by Vanetta Cooper, Key Chains by Juanika Kinlichinie, Native Indian Jewelry by Geraldine Bow and amazing local photography by Jana Ward. The Old Logandale School is much more than an “old school”, there are many events both large and small that take place in the facility. Weddings, receptions, meetings, dinners, performances and recently representatives of major candidates for the 2008 Presidential elections met with locals there to discuss important issues. The facility also houses hundreds of fond memories. OLSHACS members do receive special building use packages for special events.
