Planning experts and consultants held an information meeting on Wednesday, March 11 to get feedback from the community in regards to the ongoing Open Space and Trails studies that have been taking place for the Moapa Valley area.

In attendaance were representatives for the Trail Study from Alta Planning and Design, as well as representatives for the Open Space plan from EDAW. Dave Carlson of Clark County Comprehensive Planning was

also in attendance. The two independent projects are working together to ensure that Moapa Valley receives the best possible outcome.

Several local committee members attended and gave feedback on large maps that presented what has been worked up thus far. A handful of additional community members were invited to attend to give input that hadn't been given in prior meetings.

Victor (Woody) Woods was invited to give input from an equestrian standpoint. “We haven't heard from the equestrian community and it is vital to have their input” stated Michael Rose of Alta Planning.

Woods spent time discussing the needs of the equestrian community and gave his input for Rose to bring back to the drawing board.

Another community member invited was Cory Dalley. Dalley has a large involvement with local Boy Scouting organizations and was asked for his input on trails that the Scouts would be using as well as others. Dalley spent quite a bit of time discussing options and ideas regarding the Open Space portion of the plan with Drew Stoll of EDAW.

Both the Moapa Valley Trails Study and the Moapa Valley Open Space Plan are scheduled to conclude with a final plan by this Winter.

The groups are still seeking input from community members to complete data collection needed to move forward. Surveys for the Trail Study are available online at www.moapavalleytrailstudy.org. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. Those who do not have access to the internet can visit the Moapa Valley Library to complete a hard copy of the survey. The survey will be concluded on April 16.
