Local Zoo Tour Day Big Hit For Touring Family

It was a busy day for the Roos-n-More Zoo in Moapa on Saturday, June 27. The Zoo hosted a 'Tour Day' in celebration of its newly re-open status.

The zoo was opened about a year ago but had been closed to the public for some time due to permit and licensing issues. These issues being recently rectified, zoo owners Valerie and Jay Holt were happy to welcome anxious attendees on Saturday and show them the time of their lives.

Beautification Project In Motion At Last

A community improvement project that has been in the works now for over two years is finally gaining traction and reaching completion. The project that began as a modest local plan to beautify the intersection of Moapa Valley Blvd. and Cooper St. in downtown Overton has been taken up by Clark County Public Works and is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.

Lyon Students Attend History Day Competition

This year's winner of the National History Day (NHD) state-level competition was the duo of eighth graders Kassandrya Goodman and Alexandria Karvonen, both students of Mack Lyon Middle School in Overton. The girls entered in the performance category, portraying two Civil War spies.

Overton Power District #5 sponsored Anthony Jacobsmeyer of Overton and Wyatt Robison of Mesquite to travel to Washington, D.C. on June 11-18. This was a part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's (NRECA) National Youth Tour. A representative from the Middle East Conflicts War Memorial will be sharing information during the community 4th of July Celebration at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
