The local American Legion Diamond Jubilee Post 75 celebrated its fifteenth anniversary on Saturday, January 30 with a reception at the Old Logandale School. About 75 people attended the reception including American Legion regional leadership, Post 75 officers and members, their families and other members of the community.
To begin the program, Post 75 Commander Larry Goettsche called the assemblage to order and welcomed those in attendance.
American Legion Post 75 Historian Richard Reinheimer (standing) leads the audience through a slide presentation at a special reception celebrating the 15th anniversary of the local American Legion organization.
He then introduced Post Historian, Richard Reinheimer. Reinheimer led the audience through a slide show featuring important points of the history of Post 75.
The Post was organized by fifteen original signers in 1994 at the old LaMesa Restaurant in Logandale (now the VIP Restaurant). Organizers selected the Post's number 75 because 1994 was the 75th anniversary of the American Legion organization, Reinheimer said.
Reinheimer's presentation chronicled activities of the Post throughout the past 15 years. It included newspaper clippings from the community Veterans Day parade which has been coordinated and carried out by the Post since 1995. The presentation also showed photos and news clippings from the Post's involvement in Memorial Day grave decorating activities for Moapa Valley's fallen soldiers, flag ceremonies throughout the year at various times, fundraisers, tank day celebrations, service projects and desert cleanups and other community activities.
